Laser skin resurfacing is the most definitive treatment available for rejuvenating the skin. Laser skin resurfacing safely removes a portion of the outer layer of skin (epidermis). As you heal, the older, damaged skin is replaced by younger-looking rejuvenated skin with improvement in texture, tone, and uneven pigmentation. In addition, the healing process stimulates elastin formation and collagen deposition. Laser skin resurfacing is used to smooth fine lines, reduce acne scarring, reduce large pores, and remove pigmentation (age spots). The heat produced from the laser energy also causes a mild skin tightening effect.

How does laser skin resurfacing work?
Blue Haven Medical Spa uses a laser called a “fractionated CO2 laser” for all resurfacing. It is the new gold standard for resurfacing procedures. The laser emits thousands of microscopic columns of laser light per square inch of skin surface. The laser vaporizes this column of tissue with surgical precision, leaving healthy skin in between. There is noticeable improvement in wrinkles, scars, pores, and pigmentation after the treatment, but the visible benefits continue to develop for weeks as collagen and elastin build. Ongoing improvement is often seen up to 3-6 months.
Can laser skin resurfacing be done on other parts of the body?
Yes. Common areas treated include the neck, chest, arms, and hands which reduces signs of aging and acne scarring.
Is laser skin resurfacing painful?
Blue Haven Medical Spa has several methods to make laser skin resurfacing a comfortable procedure. A numbing cream will be applied to the skin and allowed time to penetrate before the procedure. We also use a chilled air machine to cool the skin before, during and after the lasering. Most people have a mild to moderate sensation of a sunburn lasting for a few hours after the procedure. It is very unusual to have any discomfort the next day.
How much downtime should I expect after laser skin resurfacing?
For most people, you should expect to be out of the public eye and out of the sunlight for 4 to 5 days. This is because it is essential to keep a layer of skin barrier (similar to Aquaphor) on at all times. This greatly speeds the healing process. Your new skin will also be sensitive to sunlight for the first few days, and thus it is recommended to stay indoors while you heal. The laser resurfacing itself will leave thousands of microscopic dots on the skin surface which will go away after a few days. After these 4 to 5 days of initial healing, you should be able to resume your usual activities as long as you use a daily moisturizer and sunblock.
Pricing
A resurfacing session costs $1,500 for the face and includes the aftercare products. A combination treatment of both face and neck is $2,100. The only other cost would be products needed to prepare the skin prior to the procedure.
Each patient will need to be prepared with a skin regimen for 3-4 weeks before the procedure to ensure maximum safety and optimal healing. The first product is a retinol serum to help exfoliate the skin in advance, plus increase skin turnover which helps speed the healing process. The second product would be a product to help suppress pigmentation. We carry several of these types of products as individual serums or in blended combinations, such as the Jan Marini Luminate face lotion.
